Sophia Scott: Lifeboat EP Review
October 24th 2025

It’s been seven months since Sophia Scott last made the trip this side of the pond, playing both C2C Berlin and Rotterdam before hitting London for a sold out headline show.
In that time, she’s released two singles: the love whoever you wanna love anthem ‘Either Way’ followed by the “barstool buzzing” banger ‘Smoke ‘Em if You Got ‘Em’ in late July. Both of which she included in her European and London March shows.
Fortunately, not only is Colorado's finest export back with a new EP - out now - she'll also be supporting Drew Baldridge on the European and UK dates of his headline 'Country Born' tour this December (see dates below).
We were fortunate enough to be sent a preview link to 'Lifeboat' ahead of today's release and I’m excited for this new chapter of Scott’s music. The 6 track project opens up with the above-mentioned dive bar banger, ‘Smoke ‘Em if You Got ‘Em’ before rolling into longtime fan-favourite ‘Acid in Aspen.’ The song has been in rotation for Sophia’s live shows for quite some time and it’s long been a song that fans have all but begged to be released for streaming. In fact, I’ve not known a fanbase request a song’s release so much since the Swifties learned there was a ten minute version of ‘All Too Well.’ Production on the studio version doesn’t disappoint and Scott’s vocals soar higher than the love-stoned protagonist in the lyrics: “The way that you look at me, I catch a buzz. Man, I can’t help it, I’m falling in love, and now I’m a junkie, to tell you the truth, all them drugs combined couldn’t get me as high as you.”

Track 3: ‘Lights On’ is the only song of the six that Scott doesn’t have co-writing credit on - a rarity for her - but the song fits perfectly with her discography and feels like a something she could have written: it’s fun, flirty and hooky as hell as Scott implores a suitor to treat their relationship as more than just physical. “Love me with the lights on, love me when the night’s gone. In the middle of the day, even when the bed is made. Won’t you love me with your boots on. I’ll give you all my heart when we’re in the dark, if you love me with the lights on.” It’s a stand-out track!

And while we’re on the subject of stand-out tracks, next up is title track ‘Lifeboat.’ Scott first teased the song in August in a social media post where she explained how it came to be written following the end of a relationship and a subsequent heart-to-heart with a friend who advised that maybe it was time - for the first time - that she save herself rather than try to ‘save’ a partner that was either unwilling or not ready to be saved.

The song, which Scott said took less than an hour to write once they realised their conversation had something there, is raw, relatable and revelatory: touching on themes of heartbreak, recognising patterns in your own choices and finding the strength to break those patterns before they break you. The post went viral, amassing over two million views across Instagram and TikTok and might just be Scott’s most vulnerable song yet, which is no small claim for anyone familiar with her 2023 debut album, ‘Barstool Confessions.’
Next up is 2024’s ‘Buy A Round.’ Fans have had this one in their playlists for a year, but it fits in well sonically with the rest of the EP and showcases Scott at her sultry, sexy and sassy best.
Closing out the EP is the hopeful ‘Chasing Butterflies’ and anyone familiar with Sophia as a person and not just an artist will know of her long-running love of butterflies. It’s honestly surprising it took her this long to release a song with butterflies in the title, but this one was worth the wait and serves to pull together the many themes and emotions this EP touches on and closes proceedings on a more hopeful note: “When your heart gets broke, I hope that you don’t break. Find healing in the hurt, nothing’s ever perfect, but love is always worth the wait."
‘Lifeboat’ is available everywhere now via Empire Records.
